Quick, Fast - Let's Go to Greece!

A 7-day itinerary for a summer trip to Greece, featuring Athens, Santorini and Mykonos!

Everybody knows (in my Phaedra Parks' voice) that you gotta pace yourself in these international travel streets, especially as it relates to reaching out to friends and loved ones back at home. I’m sure international travelers can relate to wanting to call friends and family at some point and realizing it was super late night in their time zone or, better yet, the middle of their work day. So anytime the timing lines up for a call, video chat, or especially a joint trip is a bonus!

Therfore, my natural reaction when my linesister: (1) said she she had time off work (yay!), (2) wanted to travel (double yay!) and (3) then texted me “Greece” on a Wednesday, was to: get to planning!

…b/c she was off the following week, i.e., we were aiming to go that following Sunday -- as in 4 days later! So here’s the itinerary I came up with. One thing ya girl will do is plan a trip!

Below is the actual itinerary I emailed my linesister on May 29, 2019 with the subject line "Greece Ideas!". We used it as our guide and had a wonderful trip.

Full Day in Santorini

Sail from Athinios Port to small islands that are home to volcanos, hot springs and traditional villages.
Stop at Nea Kameni and take the path to the crater of the active volcano. Enjoy free time to explore the island. Next, head to Palea Kameni, and swim in the hot springs.
Return to the boat for a short sail to Thirassia, where you’ll have free time to explore. Visit Manolas, accessed by winding stairs, or by a donkey ride up to the village.

Explore Santorini in a day by bus and boat. Your first stop is the 16th-century monastery of the Prophet Elias, located 550 meters above sea level at the highest point of the island. Enjoy breathtaking views across the whole island.
The next destination is Pyrgos, the highest village on Santorini, known for its architecture typical of the Cyclades. See Byzantine churches and a Venetian fortress and experience a picturesque view. At Athinios board your boat the 'King Thiras' and ride to the Nea Kameni Volcano. Follow a bumpy trail to an active volcano crater.
Back aboard the boat continue your journey and land on the island of Palea Kameni. The boat will take you within 50 meters of the thermal springs. Swim, splash or relax in the green sulfurous water.
Get to know the island of Thirasia, once part of Santorini before a volcanic eruption. On the beach you can swim, eat or explore the old village of Manola, with its spiral staircases and quaint houses.
Finally the King Thiras takes you to the port of Ammoudi, just below Ia. Walk the 300 steps to reach Ia and be rewarded with one of the most beautiful sunsets in the world. About half an hour after sunset your bus returns from Ia to the pick-up location.
